Moab is a city of about 5,000 people in eastern Utah, known for its beautiful desert landscape and its proximity to both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, as well as Utah state parks and scenic BLM lands. It’s a popular base for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and camping, and has plenty of hotels and a variety of restaurants for when you’re done with the outdoors.

Castleton Tower is a 400-foot sandstone tower on top of a 1,000-foot cone, located about 10 miles from Moab. Many thousands of rock-climbers have submitted the tower and, in 1964, Chevrolet filmed a TV commercial for the Chevy Impala on top (complete with car).
Colorado River
The Colorado River is a major river in the western United States that runs through seven US states and Mexico. It is over 1,400 miles (2,250 km) long and is a primary source of water for agriculture and cities in the region. The river is also responsible for carving the spectacular canyons and rock formations of the American Southwest over millions of years.
As the Colorado River flowed through the region, it slowly eroded the rock and sediment, creating deep canyons and gorges. The river also carried sediment downstream, creating sandbars and beaches. Over time, the river’s path changed, and it carved new channels and canyons, leaving behind the unique landscape that is now home to several national parks, including Grand Canyon National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Arches National Park.

Canyonlands National Park
Canyonlands National Park is a vast wilderness preserve located in southeastern Utah, United States. The park covers an area of over 335,000 acres (525 square miles) and is divided into four districts, each with its own unique features and attractions. The park is home to a stunning landscape of canyons, mesas, arches, and spires, carved by the Colorado River and its tributaries over millions of years.
Visitors to Canyonlands National Park can enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, camping, and stargazing – it is an International Dark Sky park. Canyonlands is famous for its numerous hiking trails, many of which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding canyons and rock formations. The park also contains several backcountry campsites and permits are available for overnight backpacking trips. Not as well-known as nearby Arches National Park, Canyonlands is well worth the visit.

Dead Horse Point State Park
Dead Horse Point State Park is a 5,000-plus-acre state park located in southeastern Utah, overlooking the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park. The park is named after a rock formation that resembles a dead horse, which stems from the legend that cowboys once used the point as a corral for wild mustangs, leaving them to die of thirst.
The park offers a variety of recreational activities, including hiking, mountain biking, camping, and scenic driving. There are several hiking trails with stunning views of the surrounding canyon country, as well as archaeological sites that provide insight into Native American culture. Dead Horse Point State Park is a must-visit destination for those who want to experience the American Southwest – if it were in any other state, it would probably be a National Park.
